I LOVED 1997!!!!
My favorite moments:
April, on the obligatory West Coast Roadtrip of Doom (in which all games seem to go 12-15 innings, and we stay up until all hours just to watch the Mets lose), in LA. Rick Reed comes in from the bullpen to pitch 5 nearly flawless innings of 1-hit, 7K ball.
June. We're playing the Braves and the bullpen is so worn out as to be completely unavailable. And we're facing John Smoltz. Typical recipe for disaster, right? NO!! Reeder to the rescue once again, taking one for the team and pitching 9 beautiful, 2-run innings for the win.
PS: Dude, I can't believe you remember the shower thing. LOL Actually I watched the top of the first , and jumped in the shower when things started to get a little bit frustrating in the bottom of the inning because Bobby Jones was freaking me out and I needed to get away from him for a little while. I thought for sure the inning would be over when I was finished. I came out to find a horrifying new world... and that inning still going on. I honestly felt like Pam Ewing, only this time the nightmare was real. So I guess I felt more like Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby... "this isn't a dream! This is really happening!!"
What an awesome year. I had SO much fun in '97.

I liked 1997 quite a bit.
That was the year that I was romanced back into the game after barely paying attention in poststrike 1995 and 96. How could you not? The Mets played their hearts out that year.
