What the hell kind of dictionary has <em>pictures</em> of articles-- or any words-- to illustrate definitions?
Sometimes, I think, there oughta be a law about crimes against words.

I still see the Citi thing as politicians grandstanding, I don't think there is anything to worry about. If the Wall Street Journal had said that in April and not February, it barely gets mentioned in passing among Mets chat.
For whatever reason, I feel they have to decide _now_. Once the stadium becomes christened by a game, then it _is_ Citi Field. I do kinda like the name, and the way it meshes well with the metropolitan/new york city/bridge theme around the park. I don't know where'd you find a doable alternative that's better, via naming rights. Of course, most of the popular non-naming rights suggestions suck too. I think calling it Shea is almost an insult to Shea Stadium. It would change Shea Stadium the building, to Shea Stadium, the place where the Mets play baseball. That's what's happening across town, even if they don't realize it yet. Jackie Robinson is too impersonal for an entire Stadium.

I'd sign John Rocker before signing Roger Clemens. And I wouldn't sign John Rocker.

Here's the integrity litmus test. If you could go back in time to 9/27/08 and sign Roidger Clemens to pitch the following game and be guaranteed a win, would you? I would not; I'd prefer to lose with honor.

<em>"think about him shoving the 60-something Jack McCormick to the ground last summer in an argument over complementary tickets to a game"</em>
With the focus on Manny's greed and nonsense, I had forgotten about this. Beating up an elderly man because he didn't get you, a multi-multi-millionaire, enough free tickets? Fuck Manny, I don't want him.
6 years ago we all overlooked Alomar's spitting in an ump's face, and look what a useless turd he turned out to be. Character is teling.

You can keep the "integrity" and "social responsibility", whatever that is supposed to mean in baseball, and I'll gladly take the wins.

weirdly, i'm agnostic about manny. i think the only thing he'd bring for sure is one year, and possibly not a monster one.
(fwiw, minaya on wfan this morning gave a nondenial denial, saying he's ready to go to war with the team as is but never ever saying that the mets are not considering manny.)
as far as citifield, i could be wrong -- and often am -- but i just do not see the name changing. for one thing, there are not a bunch of corporate sponsors out there with the bux and the impulse to jump in any time soon. if anything, if citibank tried to pull out, i see the mets fighting to make sure they (and their $400 mill) are forced to stay.
but, if we're taking alternate names, i revive the thought -- that was, i believe, first suggested on this blog -- for gil hodges park.

Keep the Citi Field name, just throw in a little sweetener:
During rain delays announce that the tarp is "Brought to you by TARP, taxpayers keeping sinking banks afloat since 2008."
