Speaking of contracts, any word whether Wilpons have an escape clause in Omar's forthcoming contract? Like Mets don't make post-season or they finish under .500 this season?
While they're at it, fire the team doctor and training staff.

And the next victim: Niese.
Did a split taking a throw at first and collapsed in pain taking a warm-up pitch. Mets are calling it a strained rigth hammy, so he'll probably be dead by morning.

"writing about the Mets has usually been more rewarding than rooting for them."
Not during those early years with Lenny Schecter and Young (before being a Dick).

Well, you know, Greg, anything can happen in 56 games. Ask Joe DiMaggio.
If the Mets played as well as you write, we could be headed for a real Subway Series. Alas, as the likes of Smith, Angell, Kahn, Schecter, Breslin, Young (when he wasn't being a Dick), Lupica and Klapisch have proven, writing about the Mets has usually been more rewarding than rooting for them. Certainly, it pays better.
That game last night was the Mets' post-1986 life in the span of 10 innings. All the hype, all the end results. The thrill of victory, and the agony of seeing said victory blow up in your face. Santana and K-Rod have got to be wondering what they've gotten themselves into, and they might be thinking of taking contract law classes at CUNY to find a way out.

HI Greg,
It seems both Santana and KRod have no life in them, probably because they're not used to playing with a last place team (the Mets are 4th only by default). It makes me angry because they are still professionals and should go out trying 100%.
I'd be even madder if this was the way the Met team was playing with a Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Martinez, Maine and Putz but since it isn't, it's become more laughable than heartbreaking. They're now a team of mostly discarded players who are losing games and players (i.e., Castillo walking down the steps) in so many funny ways it's almost 1962-1967 revisited. That's the only way to look at this season and still be interested in the last two months.

Even by Met standards, this has been one almighty clusterfuck of a season. And I'm headed out the door to view this carnage up close, matinee style.
