Tony LaRussa was convicted of a DUI a month before one of his players died in drunk driving accident, yet LaRussa was forgiven, still has his job, and those incidents are long forgotten by most. A guy with great baseball instincts but a questionable record off the field to be sure. I look at it this way - if Wally were still a player, we would look at his tangibles, then look at his off the field antics. I'm glad that Jeff has gone beyond Fred here. It's potentially promising. It's something to hold on to. I want Wally ball as much as my dad wanted Durocher ball. A guy with great baseball instincts but a questionable record off the field to be sure.
