<description>The mention of Kiner&#039;s Korners re-broadcasts is actually a spectacular idea.
I wonder if they were even saved?

I&#039;d also be happy -- knowing there are very few clips pre-1980 -- of someone narrating or providing a game summary of Met games like the playoffs in 69 and 73. Or blog posts. Could be good material.

if SNY could find a collection of Kiner&#039;s Korner uncut and unedited my winter of discontent would be much more bearable

Mets Yearbook is proof someone in management loves us and wants us to be happy. Thanks, Mr. Morganstern!

Hi Greg,

I had one of those 1963 Mr. Met bobbleheads - at the time they were called &quot;Player Mascot Action Dolls&quot; and sold for a buck. Also had one of those Polo Grounds Met popcorn holders that doubled for a megaphone. Just wish I still had them both today (the megaphone once came up on eBay but bidding had become astronimical).

One of those interviewed by Lindsay Nelson in that 1963 film, Tim Harkness, holds a special place in my heart.

It was my twelfth birthday, June 26, 1963 (OK, now all FAFIF followers can figure out how old I really am). I remember being with my dad in his delivery truck after school and listening to the game on the radio. The Mets had come back from a 4-0 deficit to tie Chicago only to see the Cubs score twice in the top of the 14th to take a 6-4 lead. Usually that meant the game was over. The Mets eventually loaded the bases with two outs. That still usually meant the game was over and only that we would have again come all so close. But Harkness hit a TWO-OUT GRAND SLAM and we won the game!

The next day there was a picture in the paper reminiscent of Bobby Thompson -- a smiling and somewhat shy Harkness standing outside the Mets clubhouse receiving the cheers from a multitude of adoring, deliriously screaming fans who had gathered in centerfield demanding he come out for a curtain call.

One would have thought Harkness just hit the shot heard &#039;round the world instead of winning an afternoon game in late June. Of course, this was because we hardly won, period, not less come from behind and certainly not when trailing in our last at bat in extra innings.

It&#039;s difficult for a film to capture such extacsy but I&#039;m glad it gave you and others a sample of what it was like being a new breeder during those wonderful early years.

As usual with the Mets and Comcast&#039;s SNY ... too little, too late, too imitative. And too cheap. It meant that the production staff actually had to spend money to get the old films transferred to modern video formats. It&#039;s not expensive, but it&#039;s an expense.
As some writer recently said about the Metsies -- they&#039;re turning into the Costco of baseball franchises.

cool stuff. I&#039;d love to see a random Mets game. I don&#039;t even think I&#039;d care if they won, so long as it wasn&#039;t a 2008/2009 punch in the gut type loss. It&#039;s too soon, but a 2006 swept in Pittsburgh with all the anticipation of clinching, or one of those playing out the string games after that.

But just a random Mets win. Whether it&#039;s a drubbing where they win 10-2 ,or a come from behinder, or a stressful 9th with Benitez loading the bases..

It&#039;d be interesting to watch a game that doesn&#039;t matter because it&#039;s old, but yet matters because I always want them to win yet can&#039;t quite remember if they do in fact win this one.

I&#039;m damn near strung out with my current employer and I&#039;d be more than happy spending my winter and spring voluntarily crawling around the Mets vault and cataloguing all they got that they don&#039;t know they got.

Greg - great stuff, as usual. Your blog certainly makes this off-season bearable.

Edgy - you&#039;re going to need an assistant for that task - I nominate myself for the job.

even if local Knights of Columbus lodges are no longer clamoring to run them during their winter smokers.

Wish I&#039;d thought of this back in the mid-90&#039;s when I was Grand Knight.
