ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Welcome to a special Tuesday edition of Flashback Friday: I Saw The Decade End, a milestone-anniversary salute to the New York Mets of 1969, 1979, 1989 and 1999. Each week, we immerse ourselves in or at least touch upon something that transpired within the Metsian realm 40, 30, 20 or 10 years ago. Amazin’ or […]

The autumnal equinox is bearing down, which is never appreciated, but let’s hear it for the good things that come while seasons are winding down: we adopted Avery (left) on September 16, 2005 and Hozzie on September 24, 2002. Easily the two best September callups since Hubie Brooks and Mookie Wilson.

The oft-scapegoated World Baseball Classic has a slaughter rule that would have been valuable to invoke last night, as first Pat Misch and then Lance Broadway proved they have excellent career prospects should teams need someone to throw BP. But alas, this wasn't a WBC game (there's something I never thought I'd type) and so […]

Greg and I would like to ask for your help in finding out what we're doing well at our little blog, what we could do better, and to get some opinions about things we might do in the future.
Please help us out by taking a couple of minutes to complete this survey. It's completely anonymous […]

Now go on, boy, and pay attention. Because if you do, someday, you may achieve something that we Simpsons have dreamed about for generations: You may outsmart someone.
—Homer Simpson’s advice to Bart upon his entering the Enriched Learning Center for Gifted Children
I’m booking an Acela special for all Mets fans who want to zoom down […]

Shortly before 1 today Joshua and I headed out to get some lunch and run some errands. (Digression: Kids would learn the value of saving better if passbook savings accounts offered interest that wasn't microscopic.) Yes, I knew there was a Mets game imminent. No, I hadn't forgotten my responsibilities as a chronicler. I figured […]

I was at the post office Friday afternoon and stood in line behind somebody who looked very familiar. It was driving me crazy, so I tapped him on the shoulder to ask if he was who I thought he was.
“Excuse me, aren't you the 2009 Mets?”
“Yes. Yes, I am.”
“Wow, I'm a big fan.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Shame about how […]

The September 18 installment of Flashback Friday: I Saw The Decade End will be presented as a special Monday Tuesday edition on September 21 22 in deference to my being too obsessed with disappointing seasons to think clearly about one of the few generally satisfying ones still writing it.
You may now return to your demoralizing albeit fascinating debate… enjoying this fantastic […]

Shockingly enough, the Mets lost. They started feebly, offered a little spurt of purposefulness, then rolled over and died.
Which was actually an improvement from the night before, when they expired in a fashion that should have been gut-wrenching but instead was just numbing. Not so long ago, the Mets losing on a game-ending error would […]

“If he’s so dumb, how come he’s president?”
—Gerald Ford’s campaign slogan, as reported by Chevy Chase on Weekend Update, 1975
Those who cut the Mets miles and miles of slack for sucking as badly as they do point to the injuries. How could have we expected them to contend without their key players? I’ll buy that. […]
