Mets Yearbook: 1980

[1]Before you head over to Two Boots tomorrow night for AMAZIN’ TUESDAY, be sure to program your DVR to record Mets Yearbook: 1980 on SNY at 6:30 PM. It was, of course, the year The Magic Was Back at Shea Stadium, though only a real time comparison between 63-99 1979 and 67-95 1980 would truly bear out that assertion. Yet I’m sure the edited highlight film will make a splendid case for why the Mets franchise turned the corner from dark alley to light at the end of the tunnel. We were six years from the Promised Land in 1980, but it did indeed feel like we had just hopped, skipped and jumped from the Paleozoic Era of Mets baseball into a future of promise, progress and John Pacella. Relive it or perhaps live it for the first time Tuesday. SNY plans a rebroadcast Wednesday at 4:00, following the Mets and Astros from Port St. Lucie; root for that to be done in under three hours lest they join MYB: 1980 in progress and we miss a minute of the Magic woven by Mazzilli, Stearns and Flynn.

To get in the mood for this particular episode, you might want to revisit Flashback Friday: 1980 [2] and immerse yourself in the power of wonderfully misguided Met belief.

We’re looking forward to you joining us at the first AMAZIN’ TUESDAY of 2010, March 23, 7 PM, at Two Boots Tavern on the Lower East Side, as we read aloud, rally around and try to raise a few bucks for the Tug McGraw Foundation. Details here [4].
