After some games, all you can do is shrug.
Even when they come when every game left feels precious.
Even when they come against the Yankees, with all the associated pomp and bother.
Christian Scott [1] was awfully good, giving up solo shots to Ben Rice [2] and Austin Wells [3]. Wells’s drive was even long enough to have been a home run in a park scaled for adults.
Alas, Cam Schlittler [4] and the Yankee relievers who followed him were just a little better — the Mets didn’t have a hit until Brett Baty [5]‘s double in the fifth and wound up with just three on the day, matching the Yankees’ three.
I’d complain more about the short porch, hastily changing the subject if someone noted that both teams got to bat there, but to what avail? Normalize the dimensions so Rice flies out and the Mets lose 1-0.
Like I said, sometimes all you can do is shrug [6].
