ABOUT US

Greg Prince and Jason Fry
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.

Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.

Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Best Double Play Combination Ever

Bernie and Casey posed here in tribute to their favorite 1997 Mets, Edgardo Alfonzo at third and Rey Ordoñez at short, replicating the Great Wall of Flushing that made the left side of our infield so impenetrable that year. Likewise, very little got by these cat-like, uh…cats. In the background you’ll see the pillow cases our […]

Kid, By the Numbers

You know the FAFIF retired numbers t-shirt has made it big when the grand poobah of Mets uniform numerology himself is sporting it at Shea. No, not Charlie Samuels, but our buddy Jon Springer from Mets By The Numbers, one of the greatest Web sites in the history of the world (we are told its core […]

Where It Began, I Can Begin to Knowin'

For the first time in 33 years, I have Joe Torre’s 1967 Topps card, the first baseball item of any kind I can ever recall latching onto, a dead ringer for the one that my mother threw away in an unprecedented purge of my mess of a room in 1974. Though there is no contemporary […]

Look Who's in Port!

Who’s that bearded busher? That’s no minor leaguer, but our (all but technically) own Mike Piazza, rehabbing for the Stockton Ports, the California League affiliate of the Oakland A’s. FAFIF reader Joel Lugo swung by Banner Island Ballpark Tuesday night, snapped a few photos of the Met legend and brought him a little good luck. […]

We've Joined the Continental League

If it’s Sunday, the FAFIF shirt must be in Switzerland.

Ross Chapman, of the seriously Met-loving Chapmans of Central Jersey, was thoughtful enough to pose for an encore shot of himself wrapped in the retired numbers…in the Alps, where his family spent the All-Star break. I was a little worried that it was kind of cold to […]

Add a 17...for Innings

Bringing the Mets good luck — and the official FAFIF shirt a good look — is Della Ziegler, a.k.a. Mrs. Lonestar Mets, lovely wife of our Texas compadre in blogging Dan. Della and Dan attended last Saturday’s Mets-‘Stros marathon at Minute Maid Park, the one that went on and on and on and on until we beat […]

This Used to be My Playground

I know Tal’s Hill is a silly place because I’ve been up on top of it. On September 21, 2003, in another phase of my professional life, I had occasion to wander Minute Maid Park. Natch, I headed 436 feet from home plate, straight out to center and climbed right up that hill.

It is high.
It […]

To Confirm, It's Not for Ron Hodges

NostraDennis recently turned NostraDaytona, visiting Jackie Robinson Ball Park in the Florida State League, taking care to represent No. 42 via the Faith and Fear t-shirt. Quantum Distributors hasn’t abandoned its post; it’s just a rainout. Thus, Dennis couldn’t see his St. Lucie Mets take on the Daytona Cubs, but he could show off his numerical […]

Don't Disrespect Our Borough

Our shirt of many numbers made its Pennsylvania photographic debut during the first game of Friday’s day-night doubleheader thanks to a commenter you know as bmfc1 and I know as a 1-man Bob Murphy Fan Club. It was my extreme pleasure to meet him early in the Mets’ 8-1/2-hour sweep of the Phillies. As for my […]

Teaching the Mark Dewey Decimal System

The FAFIF t-shirt recently visited our nation’s capital for the American Library Association’s annual conference, courtesy of our friend Sharon Chapman. Since she and it made the trip, the Mets have been catalogued under unbeaten. Nice librarianing! (We already knew she does nice parenting).
