ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

On the heels of our 1986-inspired tour of Mets unifalia, Paul Lukas of ESPN.com’s Uni Watch was kind enough to share asample image of the Ol’ Perfesser himself showing what the original Mets uniform was supposed to look like (standing in front of what the original Flushing Meadows Municipal Stadium was supposed to look like, no less). The […]

On February 2, 2002, Stephanie and I visited Bobby V’s restaurant in Corona. Our hope was that by showing up on a sleepy Saturday before spring training, we would bump into the eatery’s star attraction. And we did. The man whose name was on the door and whose face was on the menu couldn’t have […]

Mr. Met gets a little wistful this time of year, realizing that though another season is just around the corner, it means he’s gotten a little older and he has to put one more year in the books.
Wow, Mr. Met’s been thinking, 2005 was a heckuva time for him. He made new friends from Boston […]

One has, for at long last certain, left the building. The other has said goodbye to the game. The cold December night yields fresh miss.

Faith and Fear in Flushing has obtained a prototype of the commemorative patch* to be worn by all Mets players next season in celebration of their unmatched record of consistency at Atlanta’s Turner Field. “Wanna buy a Pennant Race Pack?” a patch department official asked. “First dibs on post-season seats!” Operators, he added, are standing by.

Jace anticipates a Met sweep, while Greg has an unhappy premonition of a young third baseman not guarding the line….

Spencer swings and squibs. The ball travels 35 feet down the first base line. Sturtze grabs it unsurely and flings it over Posada’s head. Matsui, who isn’t as fast as everybody says, finally crosses the plate. Mets win 10-9. Yankees lose 10-9. And all at once, the new place is christened. The co-op is truly […]

No, that’s not Juan LeBron on the right, the reward for shipping Joe Randa off to Kansas City with a king-sized grudge that he’d unleash on us in Great American Ballpark in April 2005. It’s Carlos Beltran! (And that’s LeBron on the left.)

In case any other lunatic out there has spent years looking for a decent photo of Al Schmelz, this is probably as close as you can get. For the truly geeky, it’s a composite from the team photo in the ’67: That’s Schmelz’s face, upper chest and arms, Don Cardwell’s lower chest and belt (Tommy Davis is […]
