ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Spring is in the air!
Is it the weather? No, not really — New York's been experiencing the kind of weather one would normally expect to find in a videogame this winter, making such judgments utterly unreliable. (It was 49 degrees today, which pretty much ensures it'll be 29 tomorrow.)
Is it that the Super Bowl […]

It's not for the reason (make that word plural if you're feeling dirty-minded) you might think. But before we get to Anna, some other business.
My own overreaction will come if they trade Lastings Milledge for Barry Zito. I know prospects turn into suspects all the time, but I'd like to see us take a page […]

So today Reuters reported that the Empire State Development Corporation has given preliminary approval for two new stadiums in town — ours, and one to be occupied by some random American League team. (Tip of the cap to Metsblog, where I saw it.) Our park's supposed to start rising in the spring and open for […]

Walked home over the Brooklyn Bridge tonight, marveling that it was 58 degrees out, and had the inevitable thought.
Y'know, I've sat through three-hour games in far worse weather than this. Why the heck isn't there a game on? Slackers.
When there is (not too long from now), how about some musical changes at the old ball […]

And here we are at last. The Ninth Circle of Met Hell.
In the Inferno, the Ninth Circle is a frozen lake, at whose center Dante and Virgil find Satan, trapped in the ice and chewing on Brutus, Cassius and the head of Judas Iscariot. The deepest part of Met Hell, however, does not look like […]

We may be more than halfway home, but down in Met Hell we’ve still got a little ways to go. And two more permanent residents to confront.
In the non-baseball Inferno, the Eighth Circle of Hell was Malebolge, a domain of ditches separated by great folds of earth. The inhabitants of those ditches included hypocrites, thieves, […]

No, this isn't a freakout over Gaby Hernandez plus Somebody Else for Paul LoDuca — for equal servings of brains and brouhaha about that, check out the reader comments on the always-excellent MetsBlog and MetsGeek. (Better bring your oven mitts.) My 30-second take: We have to wait until March, since you gotta see the team […]

Hope everybody is getting ready to settle down to plates of turkey, ham, turkey substitute, or whatever you and yours have on tap. (Save some of the orange-and-blue cranberry sauce for us.) On this day of heads bowed, football watched, drunken uncles ignored, mischief at the kids' table and other forms of familial togetherness, I'd […]

On to the fourth circle of Met Hell, reserved for minor Mets who committed major sins. If there's a bias toward recent Mets here, it's because minor Mets with major sins tend to get forgotten after a few years. Thank goodness.
Mickey Lolich: Rusty Staub was coming off a 105-RBI season in 1975, but M. Donald […]
