Since We're 21-12...

…seems like a perfect time to unveil this photo. That’s Steve Reynolds — Zisk Online impresario, rock god, Faith and Fear commentor and all-around good people — flying our colors flanked by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush. Steve was kind enough to let us have this snap ahead of his interview with Lee in […]

Tug, Locks Flowing

The Buzz Capra tribute (in a manner of speaking) of recent days left me longing for Tug McGraw in his Met prime. He lost his hair to the Marines and later to radiation therapy, but in between he went long when it was considered out of line for ballplayers to do so. Hair’s to […]

A Great Day in Harlem

On August 10, 2000, Stephanie and I trekked to Eighth Avenue and 157th Street to pay our respects to the Polo Grounds. The plaque, at the fourth of the four Polo Grounds Houses, marks the approximate location of home plate and notes that in addition to the Giants and some American League team whose name escapes me, […]

Let's Go Meadowlarks?

Joan Payson signed off on Mets but was said to be fond of Meadowlarks as the nickname for the new New York National League franchise whose ownership group she headed. Jim Haines of Zed Duck Studios created an insignia and mascot that we might have seen in the early ’60s if in fact Larks had trumped Mets.

Let's Go Skyliners?

Imagine if we hadn’t been Mets. We could have been Skyliners. It was one of the names under consideration in 1961 before Mets carried the day. Jim Haines of Zed Duck Studios worked up this early ’60s logo celebrating a five-borough skyline to give us an idea of what we might have looked like in one alternate […]

Tuesdays Are For Thawing

Mr. Met was cold, too. But he is smiling.

Your Carriage Awaits

You prefer express but you’ll take any train that advertises its destination with such specificity.

Sadly, this 7 was idling at the Transit Museum in Brooklyn last fall. They need to put these Shea specials back into service at once.

Looks Pink, Seems Done

Mr. Met has skewered himself a Cardinal. Dig in everybody!

March Metness: Look What's No. 1

Let’s Go Mets is the Quintessential Mets Thing, having prevailed in the 2007 March Metness tournament by edging The Happy Recap in a spirited Metropolitan Championship game Monday night.

Having outlasted 63 worthy opponents in the March Metness Field of 64, there’s nothing left to say except…Let’s Go Mets!

We'll Have What They're Having...And Then Some

Best front page ever.

May we never feel the need to put 2006 behind us. And may 2007 bring bigger and better headlines.

Happy New Year everybody.
