ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

1. Bartolo Colon sucked.
2. Wilmer Flores made another error.
3. The bats did zero against a guy who came in with an ERA north of 7.
4. Dilson Herrera, one of the only players worth watching in this disaster, broke his fingertip and is headed for the DL.
5. Herrera will be replaced on the roster not by […]

Any baseball game is a good one, of course, but the Mets played a fun one against the Phils on Sunday — you had some exciting home runs and other big hits, good starting pitching, some nifty plays in the field, and drama. Though not too much drama. You also had contributions from people you […]

What the hell’s so funny about Bartolo Colon? After a year and a month of watching him practically every fifth day, I have to admit I don’t get the joke.
He’s older than everybody. He’s rounder than everybody. He says less than anybody. He swings through almost everything. His batting helmet flies off with little provocation.
Yeah? […]

Are you supposed to know when you’ve been born again? Because I’m pretty sure I have been, fanwise.
Somewhere between Thursday night, when I expected everything to go wrong but it didn’t, and Friday night, when it never occurred to me anything would go wrong and it didn’t, I underwent some kind of transformation.
Perhaps Bartolo Colon […]

In case you don’t remember, baseball is back. A week ago at this time, you could barely sit still in anticipation of its annual arrival. Now it’s part of the woodwork.
I like the woodwork this way. I like baseball this way. I like when it keeps us company this way, embedded so smoothly into the […]

I’m getting old. It happens to everybody, to their astonishment. I’ll be 46 in a month — which isn’t ancient if you’re 56 or 66 or north of there but unfathomable at 16 or 26.
A funny thing about age, as I lean into it: Your frame of reference for time changes so thoroughly that you […]

I’ve been a baseball fan a very long time, but once a year, depending on the circumstances, I’m talked to like I’ve just discovered the game.
Ironically, it didn’t happen when I was relatively new to baseball. When I was a kid, the issue at hand was helpfully childlike in its simplicity. It went something like […]

When they opened it in 2009, the Mets of Fred and Jeff Wilpon dedicated themselves to convincing potential patrons that Citi Field would present a premium ballpark experience because it would grant those with the right kind of ticket access to exclusive clubs. That first year, very specific castes were established in terms of who […]

Some days you gotta take Randy Newman’s advice:
Roll down the window
Put down the top
Crank up the Beach Boys, baby
Don’t let the music stop
The Dodgers blast “I Love L.A.” after every victory at Dodger Stadium. I’ve grown familiar with the custom over the past couple of seasons while the Mets were reliably providing the cue to […]

The following account is issued as a public service as well as for cheap jokes. If you are over 50 years of age, please consult your physician.
Bartolo Colon was supposed to start Monday afternoon’s Mets game, but was called away due to a family health emergency.
I was supposed to have a colonoscopy during Monday afternoon’s […]
