The Last Days of Jerry Manuel

[T]he ending always comes at last
Endings always come too fast
They come too fast
But they pass too slow…
— Jimmy Webb

The Mets began this baseball season by playing the Florida Marlins. They suffered their first loss while playing the Florida Marlins. They absorbed their first serious body blow when they were swept by the Florida Marlins. They […]

Raised Expectations & Lost Colonies

Aw, how can you get mad at these Mets for being, per coach Dennis Green, who we thought they were? We thought they were going to be not very good and now we are beginning to be proven fairly prescient.

Never Ending Torre

If you’ve been staring at the same damn face for four decades, chances are it’s Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.

Some facts I was exposed to when I was 4 years old:

In 1960, Joe led the Northern League with a .344 avg.

In 1964, Joe led the N.L. with a .994 fielding mark.

The young […]

Who're Your Influences?

Tom Glavine said Andres Galarraga will be a great influence on the Latin players. Does anybody say Mike Piazza or Mike Cameron will be a great influence on the U.S.-born players? That Tom Glavine will set a great example for the white pitchers who walk around like they’ve got a bat shoved up their […]
