Empathy for the Devil

A funny thing happened midway through the Mets’ laugher of a victory over the Marlins.

The Mets were leading 7-1 at the halfway point of the game, having undressed poor Pablo Lopez in Soilmaster Stadium, and every hitter was on point, from Francisco Lindor continuing to beat all available Marlins like a drum to Patrick Mazeika […]

Escapees

It’s unlikely the Mets know they’re accessories to a furniture-moving caravan traveling the East Coast, but that’s what they are. Day 2 of the extravaganza featured a drive from outside Philly to Brooklyn, unloading furniture there and loading up more stuff in its place that’s headed to Maine later today.

Perhaps it was Mets Sensory Overload having gotten to me — Jay Horwitz’s expansive valedictory Wednesday afternoon; the practically literally endless rain delay Wednesday night; David Wright finally saying “uncle” to reality and telling us early Thursday afternoon when we could expect to see him play next and last — that […]

It's Electric

We begin, as we apparently sometimes do, in June 2014 in Miami.

Zack Wheeler‘s best career start remains the one he turned in against these same Marlins that June 19. (Though we really are talking laundry: Justin Bour is the lone holdover from that squad.) In that game Wheeler faced the minimum 24 batters over the […]

Collins and Clockwork

Fate took Johan Santana away, and we wondered if the season would be lost. It hasn’t been.

Then Fate came for Ike Davis, and we feared the same. But the Mets kept plugging along.

Then David Wright heard the knock at the door. The Mets kept rolling.

Now Jose Reyes is detained by Bad Luck, we hope only […]
